January 2020 and its all about STEM at SFX Senior!

January was all about STEM in the SFX Senior School! Mr. Stokes’ 3rd class were the youngest participants in the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition (#BTYSTE2020) in the RDS presenting a class project on “Why is the Sky Blue?” This young class caught the attention of RTE reporter George Lee and even made it to the RTE News! The participation of the school also made it to social media.

Wellbeing Week 2nd to 5th of December

Wellbeing Week at SFX Senior School was a great success. Out Action Team for Partnership (ATP) devised a themed week of activities for pupils and parents! Each day of the week had a different theme and brought a fun and reflective activity from “Marsh-mellow Monday” to “Feelgood Friday”. Pupils experienced yoga lessons, played board games, wrote gratitude letters to a family member and engaged in screen-free evenings at home. The.

While I was in Sweden, a number of our teachers and pupils took part in a recorded interview for the Department of Education & Skills (DES).  You may recall that our school was asked to pilot a wellbeing questionnaire for the DES last May.  Based on the feedback received from our school, the DES invited our staff and pupils to participate in this interview. Sharing the SFX story at the 2019 Nordic Principal’s Conference!

Last week I was privileged to join the Irish delegation of primary and secondary school principals who travelled to Habo, Sweden to participate in the 2019 Kurs Nord Conference. Participating countries included Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Ireland. What a year it has been for St Francis Xavier Senior School! At the start of this year we became a member of Partnership School Ireland and formed what is known as the Action Team for Partnership (ATP) comprising of pupils, parents, teachers and community partners Ebay and Blanchardstown Credit Union.
