Green School – Flag Raising Ceremony

We had the pleasure of hosting some important guests for our official flag-raising ceremony for the Green School Flag that we were awarded in May. Deputy Varadkar, Minister Chambers, and Minister O’Gorman, Senator Currie, Councillor Walsh, and our very own Councillor Shovlin were all in attendance. All pupils and staff gathered in front of the school at the flag poles. The Green School Committee members started the even by welcoming all our guests. We had a number of speeches where the efforts of the Green school committee were commended. The pupils and staff were thanked for taking on the challenge of reducing our litter and waste to earn us our First Green Flag.

The Show Choir gave a wonderful performance before we raised the flag. Deputy Varadkar (a past pupil of the school) had the honours of being the official flag raiser. We are delighted to have earned our first flag and are already thinking ahead to the next Green School challenge.

Please see our Gallery Page for more pictures of the day.

gCumann na mBunscoile Handball

Sophie played in the U13 girls handball Competition/Dublin on Thursday at the National Handball Centre Croke Park. Many schools from the Dublin 15 area and beyond were in attendance.
Being the only student from SFX Senior school she wore her school colours with pride and fought gallantly to represent SFX.
In her first game she met a fellow club mate representing St. Brigid’s National School Castleknock, where she played a close game against a Leinster champion, where she was unfortunately defeated.
With head held high she went on to play for the U13 Plate, meeting a player from St.Ciaran’s.  Sophie triumphed here and won the plate game.
No silver ware or crockery was physically brought home, it was pride that she carried home knowing that after a sleepless night the night before the competition she put in for herself and her school a good day’s work!

One of our 5th classes were delighted to attend the launch of the book gifting programme by the Mayor of Fingal Cllr. Adrian Henchy at Blanchardstown Library recently. The Mayor was joined by County Librarian Betty Boardman and children’s author Alan Nolan.

The book gifting programme to local schools is part of the Community Recognition Fund. The Community Recognition Fund is a major initiative from the Department of Rural and Community Development, designed to specifically support communities across the country that are hosting people from Ukraine and other countries.

Blanchardstown Library has used this funding to purchase special sets of books for each school in the Dublin 15 area. This will result in every child having access to books in their school library. Photos from Fingal County Council.
